Minor Surgical Postoperative Instructions
You have just had a minor surgical operation or procedure. If you have any problems or questions please do not hesitate to call the office. While you are recovering here are a few things to keep in mind.
ACTIVITY: First of all you will need to have someone drive you home. For the first two (2) days you need to rest. Do not lift any heavy objects or climb many steps. You may shower, bathe and wash your hair. After the first two (2) days you may start to resume your normal activities.
PAIN : After the operation you can expect to feel some pain and soreness. You will be given a prescription for pain medication to help relieve the discomfort.
DIET: You may resume your regular diet. Please be sure to drink plenty of liquids.
WOUND CARE : Depending upon the type of surgical procedure that you had, you may or may not have an incision. If you have an incision it should be kept clean and dry for two (2) weeks to assure good healing. If steri-strips were applied, they may be removed after one (1) week. If you notice any drainage from the incision clean it with hydrogen peroxide, and if any redness or swelling occurs please contact the office.
INTERCOURSE : Please refrain from having intercourse until after your follow-up appointment.
RETURN APPOINTMENT : Within 48 hours of discharge please call (404) 699-7096 for your
1 (one) - 2 (two) week post-op check up. You do not have to see the physician who actually performed your surgery.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS : Notify your doctor immediately for any of the following:
- Fever above or equal to 101? F.
- Excessive and persistent pain.
- Redness, swelling or pus formation from your incision.
